<p>Transcripts are translated for a different audience than immigration documents, and that changes what a good translation does. A credential evaluator, admissions office or licensing board is trying to determine what your qualification is worth — so the translation's job is to convey exactly what the institution certified, and nothing more.</p>
We do not convert your grades, and that is deliberate
It is tempting to render a foreign grade as a US letter grade or GPA. We do not, because assigning equivalence is the credential evaluator's job, not the translator's, and a translation that pre-empts it can undermine the evaluation it was ordered for.
Grading scales genuinely differ in direction and meaning. German grades run 1 to 4 with 1 the best. Many post-Soviet systems use 5 as the top mark. French and Italian universities commonly grade out of 30 or with distinct thresholds. Mapping any of these onto a 4.0 GPA involves judgement calls that belong to WES, ECE or whichever evaluator you are using — and if we make those calls silently, the evaluator cannot see what we did.
So we translate the scale as it appears, including any grading key printed on the transcript, and let the evaluator apply their own methodology to accurate source information.
Qualification names are not translated into US equivalents either
A German Diplom, an Italian laurea, a French licence and a post-Soviet specialist degree do not have exact US counterparts. Rendering one as "Bachelor's degree" asserts an equivalence that only the evaluator is entitled to determine. We give the qualification as awarded, so the document says what the institution actually conferred.
What gets translated
The whole record: every course, its credits or contact hours, every grade, the grading key, the issuing institution and faculty, dates of study, the award, and the registrar's seal and signature. Contact hours matter more than people expect — many evaluators use them to determine credit equivalence, and a transcript translated without them can force a re-submission.
If your diploma and transcript are separate documents, send both together. They are usually reviewed as a pair, and it is cheaper and faster than submitting them separately.

- The diploma or degree certificate too, if you have it — they are normally reviewed together.
- Who the translation is for — WES, ECE, a specific university, a state licensing board. Some evaluators have their own submission rules.
