Turkish documents raise two recurring problems that generic translation services tend to get wrong, and both cause rejections.
The nüfus kayıt örneği is not a birth certificate
Turkish civil status is maintained centrally in the population registry, and the document most people are given — the nüfus kayıt örneği, or population registry extract — is a record of registry entries rather than a standalone birth certificate in the American sense. It typically lists parents, place and date of birth, marital status and registry location together on one form.
This matters because a US reviewer expecting a birth certificate needs to be able to see that the document does in fact establish the birth facts being claimed. A translation that renders the form's headings loosely, or omits registry identifiers and the office that issued it, invites a Request for Evidence. We translate the form structure as it stands, including the registry fields, so the document is legible as what it actually is.
Dotted and dotless i, and what it does to names
Turkish distinguishes four letters that English collapses into two: ı (dotless i) and i, and their capitals I and İ. Turkish also uses ç, ğ, ö, ş and ü. When a name containing these is entered into a US system that strips diacritics, the result frequently does not match the spelling on a passport or a previously filed form — and a reviewer comparing two documents sees a discrepancy where there is none.

Certification & Authentication

Türkiye is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so a Turkish public document can be apostilled in Türkiye for use in the United States, and a US document can be apostilled here for use in Türkiye. Which direction you need depends on where the document was issued and who is going to receive it — an apostille is obtained in the country that issued the document, not the country that will read it. If a Turkish authority is asking for a sworn translation (yeminli tercüme) executed in Türkiye, that is a Turkish-side procedure and a US certificate of accuracy will not substitute for it. Send us what you were asked for and we will tell you plainly whether we can satisfy it.

Do you translate the nüfus kayıt örneği for USCIS?
Yes. It is one of the documents we handle most often. We translate the complete form, including registry fields, issuing office and any annotations, so the document is legible to a reviewer as the record it actually is.
My name is spelled differently on my Turkish documents and my passport. Is that a problem?
It is a common situation and it is manageable, but tell us at the start. Turkish letters such as ı, İ, ç, ğ, ö, ş and ü are often flattened differently by different systems. We keep the transliteration consistent across your whole document set and handle genuine variants so they do not read as errors.
Does the translation need to be notarized?
Not for USCIS — a signed certificate of accuracy is sufficient. Some courts, consulates and registries do require notarization. If you have written instructions from whoever is receiving the document, send them to us and we will tell you what is actually needed.
