The short answer
UK Visas and Immigration requires every document not in English or Welsh to come with a full translation that the Home Office can independently verify. The translation must include the translator's confirmation that it is accurate, the date, the translator's full name and signature, and their contact details. A notarized translation is not required.

What the Home Office checks
The UK rule is short and practical: the Home Office must be able to verify the translation independently. That is why the required elements are the translator's confirmation of accuracy, the date, the translator's full name and signature, and their contact details. A caseworker who doubts a translation can contact the translator. Notarization, sworn translators and membership of a UK body are not required for most visa routes, though some applicants choose a translator registered with a UK professional body.
What our UK translations include
- A full translation of every page, stamp and endorsement.
- A signed statement that it is an accurate translation of the original.
- The date, the translator's full name and signature.
- Our contact details (Global Certified Translations, Edgewater, New Jersey, with phone and email), so the Home Office can verify the translation.
Documents commonly translated
For spouse and partner visas: marriage certificates, divorce decrees, birth certificates of children, and evidence of the relationship such as messages and letters. For work and study: diplomas, transcripts and employment letters. For settlement and citizenship: police certificates and civil records. Bank statements are often required in financial evidence; if they are not in English, they need translating too.
US documents going to the UK
US documents are usually in English already, so they need no translation, but some UK bodies want them authenticated with an apostille. We arrange state apostilles for New Jersey and other state-issued documents; federal documents such as FBI background checks are apostilled by the US Department of State, which we do not handle.
Uploading
Scan each original and its translation together, in that order, so the caseworker sees them as a pair. Name the files clearly: "Marriage certificate + translation" is better than "scan_004".
Relationship evidence
Spouse and partner applications often include messages, letters and photos with captions in another language. Choose a representative selection across the relationship, in date order, and translate each item in full. Screenshots should show the sender, date and time; we translate the messages with those details kept, so the caseworker can follow the conversation.
Bank statements and financial evidence
Several UK routes set minimum income or savings requirements, proved with bank statements over a set period. Foreign statements need full translations of every page you submit, with the account holder, bank, dates and balances clear. Amounts stay in the original currency; the caseworker converts them. Payslips and employment letters that support the same income are translated with matching names and employer details.
What we don't do
We translate and certify for the Home Office's requirements; we do not advise on UK immigration rules or prepare applications. We do not process federal (FBI) apostilles.

Questions
Do bank statements for a UK visa need translating?
If they are not in English or Welsh, yes, every page you submit, with the translator's details on the translation.
Will the Home Office contact you about my translation?
It may, to verify it. That is why our contact details are on every translation.
Do UK visa translations need to be notarized?
Generally no. The Home Office needs the translator's confirmation of accuracy, the date, the translator's full name, signature and contact details.
Can a US translator translate for a UK visa?
Yes. The requirement is that the Home Office can verify the translation with the translator, not that the translator is in the UK.
Can I translate my own documents for UKVI?
No. Use an independent professional translator.
