Apostille Services in Florida

The Florida Department of State issues apostilles for Florida public documents. The state's heavy Latin American and Caribbean traffic means a large share of these are documents heading south — and whether an apostille is even the right instrument depends on where they are going.

We handle Florida apostilles at $195 per document, about five business days, with certified translation available alongside.

Hague and non-Hague destinations from Florida

Most of the Americas are party to the Hague Apostille Convention — Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic — so an apostille is the correct route for documents heading there.

Cuba and Haiti are not party to the Convention. Documents for those destinations need consular legalisation instead, which involves authentication and then the relevant consulate, and follows their own procedures and timelines. This distinction matters more in Florida than anywhere else in the country.

Florida marriage certificates are held by the Clerk of the Circuit Court in the county where the licence was issued, and may need that clerk's certification before the Department of State will apostille them. Birth and death certificates from the Bureau of Vital Statistics generally do not.

Documents for Brazilian authorities

Brazil joined the Hague Convention in 2016, so US documents for Brazilian use need an apostille rather than consular legalisation. Brazilian authorities typically also require a tradução juramentada — a sworn translation by a translator registered with a Brazilian state commercial board.

A US certified translation does not substitute for that. We will tell you when this applies rather than sell you a translation that will be refused.

Preguntas frecuentes

Is an apostille valid for Cuba?

No. Cuba is not party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so documents for Cuban use need consular legalisation instead.

Do Florida marriage certificates need Circuit Court certification?

Often yes, because the Clerk of the Circuit Court is the custodian. Birth and death certificates from the Bureau of Vital Statistics usually go directly.

Does Brazil accept a US certified translation?

Brazilian authorities generally require a sworn translation by a Brazil-registered translator. The apostille is a separate matter and is the correct instrument for the document itself.

What does a Florida apostille cost?

$195 per document, taking about five business days.
