Birth Certificate Translation in Arizona

Families from the Democratic Republic of Congo often hold a jugement supplétif - a court judgment establishing a birth that was never registered at the time. It is in French, it is legitimate, and it is a judgment, not a registry extract. The translation names the court and presents it as what it is.

The distinction matters. An adjudicator who reads a court judgment presented as a birth registration, and then notices the difference, has to reassess the whole file.

Most Mexican birth records reaching Arizona come from Sonora and Sinaloa. Later amendments are recorded as marginal notes, and a translation that leaves them out describes a different record from the one that exists.
