Divorce Decree Translation in New York
New York divorces are granted by the Supreme Court - not the Family Court - and the Judgment of Divorce is filed with the County Clerk of the county where the case was heard. New York seals divorce records for 100 years: only the spouses and their lawyers, or someone with a court order, can get a certified copy.
For divorces since 1963, the state Department of Health can also issue a Certificate of Dissolution of Marriage, a short-form proof that the divorce happened.

The Certificate of Dissolution is convenient, but a foreign authority deciding whether to recognise a divorce usually wants the judgment itself: which court, when it ruled, and what it decided. For Italy - where many New Yorkers still have a marriage on record - the divorce is registered in the Italian civil status records through the consulate, and the consulate expects the judgment, apostilled, with an Italian translation.
Italian consulates set their own rules for how that translation is certified, and some accept only their own certification or a sworn translator's. Check with the consulate first; we will tell you if ours will not do.
