Resume Translation

Translation of resumes, CVs and experience letters for US jobs, jobs abroad and visa petitions, adapted to the target country's CV conventions.

The short answer

A resume translation is adapted to the reader's country: US resumes leave out photos and birth dates, while many European CVs include them. For visa petitions, the resume is not enough; USCIS relies on employer experience letters, translated and certified (8 CFR 204.5(g)(1)), and counts three years of experience as one year of university for H-1B equivalency (8 CFR 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(D)(5)).

A resume is read in under a minute by someone deciding whether to call you. A literal translation of a CV written for another country often fails that test: it is too long, carries details the reader does not expect, and uses job titles that mean nothing locally. We translate accurately and adapt the format to the country where it will be read, without inflating anything.

Rules that apply

Each rule links to its source. Checked 4 November 2026. Confirm with the office that will receive your documents.

Rule Source
Evidence of qualifying experience must be letters from current or former employers with the writer's name, address and title and a description of the work. 8 CFR 204.5(g)(1)
For H-1B degree equivalency, three years of specialised training or experience may be counted for each year of college-level training lacking. 8 CFR 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(D)(5)
Foreign-language experience letters filed with USCIS need certified English translations. 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)
The EU's Europass CV is a standard format accepted across Europe, with set sections and language-skill levels. Europass (European Commission)
US employers asking for age, photos or other protected information can create evidence of discrimination, which is why US resumes leave them out. US EEOC, Prohibited Employment Policies/Practices

Typical length and price

Typical length: about 300–800 words per resume (about 2–4 pages of 250 words).

Estimated price into English at that length: $44.80–$102.80 per file, certificate of accuracy included.

These figures are our estimates for a typical document of this type, not averages of past orders. Upload yours for an exact word count and price.

Conventions differ by country

These are conventions, not rules, and they are changing; when in doubt, follow the employer's instructions. For US applications, we leave out photo, birth date, marital status and nationality unless you ask us to keep them.

Job titles and degrees, honestly

A translated job title should tell the reader what you did, at the level you did it. A Spanish Jefe de Área may be an area manager or a department head depending on the company; we ask rather than pick the grander option. Degree names are translated literally with the original in brackets (Licenciatura en Derecho: Licentiate in Law), because claiming a US degree equivalent is the evaluator's job, and an inflated equivalence on a resume can sink an application or a visa petition.

Experience letters for visa petitions

For H-1B, L-1, O-1 and employment-based green cards, USCIS relies on employer letters, not your resume. Each letter should be on letterhead, signed, give the writer's name and title, your dates of employment, your title and a description of your duties. Letters in another language need a certified translation. If a former employer has closed, ask your attorney about secondary evidence; we can translate pay slips, contracts and social-security records that support it.

Cover letters and LinkedIn

Cover letters are adapted rather than translated, because tone and length expectations differ. Profile text can be translated in the same order as your resume so the two match.

Dates, grades and languages

Dates on a US resume run month and year (May 2019 – present). Grades and honours are kept as awarded with a short explanation where the scale is unfamiliar ("sobresaliente, the highest grade band"), never converted to a US GPA. Language skills can be stated with the Common European Framework levels (B2, C1), which European employers recognise, or with plain descriptions for US readers. Professional licences keep their official names and numbers, with the issuing body named.

Going abroad from the US

For a job abroad, the US resume is turned into the local format: a German Lebenslauf with a reverse-chronological table, a French CV with a short profil, or a Europass CV. US-specific terms such as "GPA", "associate degree" or "magna cum laude" are explained, since foreign readers may not know them.

Gaps, career changes and part-time work are translated as stated; we do not rewrite your history.

If you need the same resume in two languages, we keep them parallel section by section, so an interviewer holding either version sees the same order.

What we need from you

  • Your current resume or CV in Word.
  • Where it is going: a US employer, an employer abroad (which country), or a visa petition.
  • Experience letters, if this is for a petition.

How it works

  1. Upload the document. The quote tool counts the words and prices the job before you commit to anything.
  2. Translation. The whole document - every page, stamp, seal and annotation - with the layout kept close enough to the original that a reviewer can read the two side by side.
  3. Certification. A State Court Certified Translator signs the certificate of accuracy.
  4. Delivery. A print-ready PDF by email, typically within 24 hours. Notarization, an apostille or mailed hard copies are added here if you need them.

Turnaround

Standard turnaround is 24 hours. Expedited service is +50% for 6-8 hours and +100% for 1-3 hours. Tell us your deadline when you order.

Pricing Information

Most resumes fit in one or two pages: $39 for the first 250 words into English ($49 into another language), then $0.116 per word. Each experience letter is a separate file and usually fits within the first-page price.
