Brochure Translation
Translation of brochures, catalogues, flyers and sales sheets, with text-expansion and disclosure rules handled for each market.
The short answer
A brochure translation has to fit the layout and keep its legal content. Spanish, French and German usually run longer than English, so copy is written to fit. In the US, disclosures in a foreign-language ad or brochure must be in that language (16 CFR 14.9); Quebec and France require French in catalogues and commercial documents.
A brochure is designed around its English text: a headline that fits on one line, captions that sit under photos, a back page with the small print. When the text changes language, all of that has to still work. We translate to fit, keep the claims and disclosures exact, and give your designer files they can drop into the layout.
Rules that apply
Each rule links to its source. Checked 4 November 2026. Confirm with the office that will receive your documents.
| Rule | Source |
|---|---|
| Advertising and sales materials in a language other than English must make required disclosures in that language. | 16 CFR 14.9 |
| Catalogues, brochures, folders and commercial directories in Quebec must be in French. | Charter of the French Language, CQLR c. C-11, s. 52 |
| French is mandatory in advertising and in the description of goods and services in France. | Loi n° 94-665 (Toubon Law) |
| False or misleading descriptions of goods or services are actionable in any language. | 15 U.S.C. 1125(a) |
| Under the doctrine of foreign equivalents, a foreign product name is translated to test it against existing trademarks. | TMEP 1209.03(g) |
Typical length and price
Typical length: about 300–1,200 words per brochure (about 2–5 pages of 250 words).
Estimated price from English into another language at that length: $54.80–$159.20 per file, certificate of accuracy included.
These figures are our estimates for a typical document of this type, not averages of past orders. Upload yours for an exact word count and price.
Text expansion
Translations from English are usually longer: Spanish and French often by 15 to 25 percent, German by more in headlines because of compound words. Chinese and Japanese are shorter in characters but need larger type to stay readable. Tell us where space is tight (headlines, buttons, captions, table cells) and we write to fit, offering a shorter alternative where the literal translation would overflow.
Send the right files
- Best: an InDesign IDML or the text exported from your design tool. We return translated text in the same structure for your designer.
- Fine: a Word file with the text in reading order and a PDF of the layout for context.
- Harder: a flattened PDF only. We can translate from it, but your designer will have to place the text manually.
We translate the text; layout in the translated language (desktop publishing) is quoted separately or done by your designer.
Claims and the small print
Prices, offer terms, guarantees, specifications, certifications ("FDA-cleared", "CE marked") and footnotes are translated exactly, never paraphrased. A Spanish-language brochure for US customers must carry its disclosures in Spanish. A brochure for Quebec must be in French, and in France the Toubon Law requires French in advertising and product descriptions.
Names, slogans and images
Product names stay as registered unless a local name has been cleared. Slogans are adapted, and we send a back-translation of each adapted line for your approval. We also point out photos, symbols or colours that read differently in the target market, though the choice is yours.
Print and digital
Brochures increasingly live as PDFs and web pages too. If the same text appears in print and on your site, translate it once and reuse it, so both say the same thing.
Which language variant
A brochure for US Hispanic customers, one for Mexico and one for Spain read differently: vocabulary, formality (usted or tú) and even number formats change. The same goes for French in Quebec and France and for Brazilian and European Portuguese. Tell us the market and the audience (consumers, trade buyers, patients), and we set the tone accordingly. If one version must serve several countries, we write a neutral variant and avoid words that only work in one of them.
Trade shows and short runs
Trade-show brochures and sales sheets are often needed fast and in small runs. Send the final English text, not a draft that will change, and the show date; we schedule translation so your designer has time to set the text and proof it before printing.
Review before printing
Ask someone in the target market, ideally a salesperson or distributor who uses the brochure, to read the laid-out PDF before it goes to print. Layout can introduce errors that were not in the translation: a broken line in a headline, a hyphen in the wrong place, a caption under the wrong photo. We will check the final PDF against our translation if you send it.
What we need from you
- The source text (IDML, Word or exported text) and a PDF of the layout.
- Target market: US Spanish, Mexico, Spain, Quebec, France and so on.
- Space limits for headlines and captions.
How it works
- Upload the document. The quote tool counts the words and prices the job before you commit to anything.
- Translation. The whole document - every page, stamp, seal and annotation - with the layout kept close enough to the original that a reviewer can read the two side by side.
- Certification. A State Court Certified Translator signs the certificate of accuracy.
- Delivery. A print-ready PDF by email, typically within 24 hours. Notarization, an apostille or mailed hard copies are added here if you need them.
Turnaround
Standard turnaround is 24 hours. Expedited service is +50% for 6-8 hours and +100% for 1-3 hours. Tell us your deadline when you order.
Pricing Information
Priced by word count: $49 for the first 250 words from English into another language, then $0.116 per word. A typical tri-fold brochure is 400–800 words. Desktop publishing in the translated language is quoted separately.
