Translation for E-Commerce Sellers

Professional translation of the documents online sellers need to enter a market: product safety information, instructions, policies, supplier contracts and import paperwork.

The short answer

We do not translate or localize online stores. Sellers use us for professional translation of the documents a new market requires: product safety information and instructions, which in the EU must be in a language consumers easily understand (GPSR, Article 9(7)); French for Quebec; return and warranty policies; and supplier contracts, certificates and customs invoices (19 CFR 141.86).

Rules that apply

Each rule links to its source. Checked 4 November 2026. Rules change, so confirm with the office that will receive your documents.

Rule Source
Consumer products must come with instructions and safety information in a language easily understood by consumers, as determined by the member state; applies from 13 December 2024. Regulation (EU) 2023/988 (GPSR), Article 9(7)
Product inscriptions, packaging, instructions and commercial documents in Quebec must be in French. Charter of the French Language, CQLR c. C-11, ss. 51-52
Advertising in a language other than English must make its required disclosures in that language. 16 CFR 14.9
Textile products advertised online must disclose whether they are made in the US, imported, or both. 16 CFR 303.34
Commercial invoices for imports must be in English or accompanied by an accurate English translation. 19 CFR 141.86(d)

What online sellers send us

  • Product safety information and instructions: warnings, age grading, allergens, instructions for use, as documents.
  • Declarations of conformity and test reports from manufacturers, or for authorities in the destination market.
  • Policies: returns, warranty and terms of sale, delivered as documents for your team to publish.
  • Supplier documents: contracts, specifications, certificates and invoices from manufacturers abroad.
  • Letters from authorities and marketplaces: notices from foreign product-safety or consumer authorities, which need an accurate English version quickly.

Selling into the EU

Since 13 December 2024, the General Product Safety Regulation requires safety information and instructions in a language easily understood by consumers, as each member state decides. In practice that means the official language of each country you ship to; Germany's product safety law, for example, requires German. The safety warnings must also be shown online, so your team will need the translated warnings for the listing as well as for the box. We translate the warnings and instructions; your team places them.

Quebec and Canada

Quebec's Charter of the French Language requires French on product inscriptions, packaging and instructions, and on commercial documents such as invoices and order forms. Plan French versions of your documents before shipping there.

Policies and disclosures

Return and warranty terms in two languages must say the same thing; a translated return window that differs from the English invites complaints. For Spanish-language advertising to US customers, the FTC requires disclosures in Spanish too. We translate policies and disclosures exactly, as documents.

Suppliers and imports

Contracts, specifications and certificates from overseas factories are translated with quantities, tolerances, lot numbers and Incoterms exact. Commercial invoices for US customs must be in English or come with an accurate English translation.

Product compliance files

Authorities and marketplaces increasingly ask sellers for a product's technical documentation: the declaration of conformity, test reports, the manufacturer's and importer's details, and the safety information supplied with the product. When those come from a factory abroad, they need accurate English versions for your own records, and translated versions for the destination market. Standards, model numbers and test results are copied exactly; only the text around them is translated.

Customer disputes and chargebacks

Disputes with foreign customers bring messages, complaints and evidence in other languages. We translate them in full, with dates and order numbers kept, so your team or payment provider can assess the claim.

What we don't do

We do not translate or localize online stores, product feeds or marketplace listings, manage listings, or do SEO. We translate documents you send us, and we do not advise on product safety compliance.
